“Pokemon Go”, the revolutionary Augmented Reality (AR) game from Nintendo has reached a new peak.
According to a new report from app analytics company Sensor Tower, mobile users are spending more time playing Pokemon Go than browsing Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, or Instagram.
The report shows that iPhone users spent more than time using Pokemon Go than the leading social media apps. Users spent 33 minutes playing the game, compared to 22 minutes on Facebook and 18 minutes on Snapchat.Image Source: Sensor Tower
However, there are two important caveats to these stats:
- Sensor Tower only looked at usage on a single day: July 11, just days after Pokemon Go’s official release.
- The amount of time spent on the game is less remarkable when you compare its usage to other games such as Candy Crush (43 minutes/day) and Game of War (approx. 2 hours/day).
None the less, the stats are staggering considering the fact that the game managed to beat the top social media apps so easily. We will just have to wait and see whether Pokemon Go becomes a cultural phenomenon or just a fad.
